Someone from GTAforums:Ok guys, I just bought the swedish magazine LEVEL that had some GTA IV info in it from their hands-on preview. Now much info has been revealed from the magazine, but I found many things that wasn磘 mentioned on the net, so here磗 some stuff I found:
- When night, ten thousands of lit up windows can be seen in Liberty City.
- It seems that you can breathe in while sniping, for more accuracy.
- The game looks nothing like it did back in March 2007, after trailer 1, the game was looking far from finished, with very unstable FPS count. Now the FPS is amazing all the time, no matter how much going on on the streets.
- When inputting the info in the police databases in cop cars, Niko drives with one hand and operates the computer with the other one.
- Some spotted street names were: North Holland, Ruby street, and Silicon street.
- When driving by, you can occasionally spot peds having problem with their cars, standing and shouting and waving with their arms.
- At one moment Niko said: ''What the hell is wrong with these people ?'' while driving by in the car.
- Characters breath can, besides on the street, also be seen when traveling to higher altitudes, like skyscrapers
- You can hang onto passing boats and climb onboard (similar to VCS I guess)
- There is a helicopter-tour place where you can take a tour around LC with a guide, or hire your own helicopters. Or just shoot the guide and steal the heli...
That磗 all guys! http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=315350GTA IV: New Info
The latest 1up podcats has said they are playing the completed game right now and that people can't even begin to anticipate how good the game is. UNfortunately they couldn't give details. But they did say even the longtime GTA fans will be amazed at what they've done with the game. GTA IV: New Info
I have a feeling this GTA is going to have coop play. They seem to be really cagey about the multiplayer..I'm hoping anyway.
Looks like GTA4's on its way to top 10 all-time status. I've read numerous of the recent hands-on from various publications, and the game just seems like it's on another level.
How is the shooting going to be structured? Is it the same lockon or TPS?
If you haven't read already, EGM had an inteview with Sam Houser and got a play on GTA pretty much unrestricted. Scans were posted on another thread:http://uk.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=26266513%26page=0Since the article is about 13 pages, here is my summary of all the juicy bits
Right, here's my summary of interesting stuff for those who cba to read it all. I'll try to omit stuff that has already been known about the game.PS3 will have a minutely warmer colour palette. Other than that, both versions will be more or less identical out of the box.Using the cell phone that has been described in previous previews, you can call the emergency services like an ambulance, police car or fire engine and it will be dispatched in real time from one of the stations in the borough you are calling from. This can work to allow you to easily ambush and steal an emergency vehicle. Services also respond to threats in the environment that may not be your fault, so if you get into a firefight with a group of enemies, you can lay low and call in the cops who will try to take down anyone they see as lawbreakers including your enemies. SWEET!!! :DThe phone system, as previously shows, allows you to start your missions however you want, however this works through a contact system. You need to keep contacts happy for them to stay on your list, this means doing jobs for them, doing sub-missions for them, or participating in mini games for them, like taking them out for drinks then doing the drive hom drunk mini-game.Sam Houser admits he is obsessed with in game relationships, not just with girlfriends, but with teaming in game. He mentions an example of ''bomb the base'' mission in GTA3 where 8-ball and the protaganist need to blow up that ship in portland harbour where you are sniping people to keep 8 ball from getting shot by them. He states that he is trying to harness the power of the next gen systems to make this type of gameplay muh much deeper.Houser furthers his discussions about relationships by dropping hints that, cultivating certain relationships will reap certain rewards, like certain contacts may introduce you to more influential contacts, or new weapons, or new vehicles or even help you out in missions. This, he says, is meant to breed involvement between the player and the characters, like, once you have a contact on good terms, you can kill them off, like in VIP type missions where you must save a person, you can let them die and just continue the story by creating influence with other main characters.Houser mentions that, while in San Andreas, you worked on yourself through clothing, gyms, haircuts, eating, etc.... in GTA4, you spend this time on others cultivating relations ships through minigames like darts game, drinking games, dating, etc, as like mentione above.Driving in GTAIV is more slippery than before. Possibly to introduce the idea that driving at high speeds isn't always best, like in previous installments. Sometimes driving at medium speeds is easier. Brakes will also be a lot grittier and less arcadey this time round. Driving skills can't be leveled up so it becomes more about learning to drive rather than just improving skills through lengthy play. The aiming and cover systems aswell as the drive by systems are purposefuly made grittier so that players are forced to refine their gun shooting skills instead of simply using auto-aim like in previous installments. You can flag down cabs to take you anywhere you want which can be easier since this game introduces more realism into stealing cars ie. stealing cars and taking them to destinations is not as simple an affair as in previous GTA games. As mentioned in other previews, if you smash into something at high speed, you'll fly through the windshield. One rep mentions, one time, to escape the police, he smashed his car into the curb on a waterfront and his avatar was launched through the windsheild and into the harbour where he quickly nabbed a boat and sped off. Pretty frikkin nifty imo :DThe new hand to hand combat system involves counter-attacks (possibly like assassin's creed?). They had a consultant who gave them advice on Krav Maga (Israeli Special Forces martial arts. Very brutal from what I've heard) for them to integrate into the game.A new mechanic has been introduced for when you are being busted. Unlike previous games, when police come in to arrest you, a minigame ensues where you must press A (or X on a PS3 I assume) at the right time when a poiceman comes to slap the cuffs on you and you'll break free, but also gain an extra wanted star. Can't wait for this feature!Climbing is more versatile this tiem round with the avatar being able to shimmy up pipes, along conduits, drump from building to building lara croft style and hang on to back of vehicles with a minigame which you need to complete constantly to hang on and keep balanced.Grenated can be dropped out of vehicles onto the road. You can ''cook'' them meaning they have a time limit before explosion so, you hold down a button to pull the pin out and let go to drop it out the window onto the road. By holding down longer, you can time it so that the grenade explodes sooner after being dropped on the road over if you had just tapped the button. Holding too long causes it to explode in Niko's hand.Houser drops hint about multiplayer mode, how he like to suicide by pulling the pin out of a grenade then running into the middle of a goup of opponents causing him to suicide them.Houser drops hint that PS3 version will use Sixaxis in a way that ''makes sense'' possibly hinting to Sixaxis actualy being put to use in a way that doesn't just feel tacked on at the last minute. All testing for the interview was done on an Xbox 360.
How is the shooting going to be structured? Is it the same lockon or TPS?
From what I've heard, it's both. If you only press in the trigger button half-way, it enters a free-aiming mode, and if you press it in fully, it enteres the tradition lock-on aiming system (which I despise).
Can't wait can't wait can't wait can't wait can't wait...*Pulls an Eric Cartman and immediately begins pacing in front of Gamestop saying, ''Come on....Come on...''*
I really cannot wait for this game. Everytime I read new info about it it gets better and better.

It wasn't necessaily the quality of the auto-aim, it was just that it was far too easy: lockon, shoot, cycle to next target..........................
Damn, this game makes my heart flutter away. Sad, but true... I need it now!
How is the shooting going to be structured? Is it the same lockon or TPS?
1up couldn't give details, but they did say shooting is definitely improved from past games, but still not perfect. It is still lock on shooting, but if you hold the ''lock'' button looser, you can switch your targets. They also said something to the effect that there is less problems shooting guys that are off screen hitting you. However, they did say the cover mechanic doesn't work as smoothly as Gears or Uncharted. Sometimes you can get stuck on the cover spots. Not sure what they meant by that though.
Sounds awesome :D I can't wait to get this game, well i got to purchase one of the consoles first before i get it so i can play it but i can't wait :)
YES THEY GAVE US STREET NAMES!!!!! NICE FIND YO!!!!!!
Looks like this is finally as big a leap for the series as GTA2-3. Can't wait to try it.
Already knew some of these details, but thanks.
