They don't play the Phoenix Wright's games (or the new Apollo Justice)Why ?Many reasons but those Sony, Microsoft and even Nintendo fanboys should stop looking for a great story elsewhere and try Phoenix Wright : Ace Attorney. I think it's really that good !Of course, unfortunetely, you need a Nintendo DS but that shouldn't stop you !So fanboys, what are you gonna do when the finger of Phoenix is pointing on you ?

courtroom drama doesn't appeal to everyonebut i do think that those that can should at least try one of the games to see if it's their cup of teaif not, there are better examples of great storylines in games IMO:MGS 1 %26 3, Bioshock, the GTA games, Half-Life games (even Portal) Eternal Darkness, KOTOR 1 %26 2, Mass Effect, God of War 1 %26 2, to name a fewthese are more conventional storylines, with a variety of themes that are more likely to appeal to the general gamer IMOthe importance of a good storyline is being emphasised more and more these days, and so more games are focusing a lot more on the narrative side of thingslook at up and coming titles like GTA4, Too Human, MGS4, Alan Wake, RE5 .. storyline is looking like an important part of each from what we've seen so far

Bioshock character development is a little tricky seeing as how there are like 3 characters who all change during the game.
PW felt like a daily murder show to me, but nothing above that level. To be honest when gamers say that games lack a decent story, I think people are talking about the overall direction of the game in general. There are many shows and movies that go against gamings trade and tested formula of winning or losing. If I kill a hoard of people in a video game, should I be proud of my achievment or should I think I'm a mass muderer? Those kind of messages are hardly delt with when it comes to video games, but when they are rarely brought up they are not only brilliant but they are genuinly the hardest choices you'd have to make in a video game. For example at a point in mass effect (I wont say which) you have to choose to save person a or person b. Both charicters have a back story and form an attatchment to you, so either choice is a lose-lose.

^ ok .. i'll get back to you in 6 months :Pbtw, watch the quote count .. more than 5 could result in modding!
I think it's because people have different expectations when they are looking for a good story. For some a good story must absolutely feature strong character development, important themes, and a plot that doesn't get in the way of what's really important, but still moves the story along. Also, throw in a dab of irony and subtlety to sweeten the deal.On the other hand, some people just want something that will hold their short attention span (face it, many people now suffer from this). This usually includes lots of action, twists, and a plot that is fast paced enough to keep them from wanting to move on to something else. Now I know I'm generalizing a bit here, but look at the what type of games and movies make the most money: big loud ones. As a producer in the 50's said (can't remember his name atm),''Make them wider not deeper!''So, you have to realize...while the Pheonix Wright games may hold great stories within their game packs...when people complain about wanting better stories, they may not agree with your opinion on what makes a story great.
