It seems that the tech companies will never be able to keep up with the demands of a Metal Gear Solid game, with Hideo Kojima stating in a Famitsu interview that Guns of the Patriots suffered cuts in order to fit onto to a Blu-ray disc.
At 50GB, the Blu-ray offers nearly six times the storage capacity of a DVD %26ndash; but it's still not enough for the demands of Metal Gear Solid 4. Earlier last week the game's assistant producer Ryan Payton confessed that the American and European versions would not carry the Japanese voice track due to storage limitations. Hideo Kojima further elaborated on the issue and stated in a Famitsu interview, kindly translated by Kotaku, that, ''There's not enough space. We always talked about where to cut and what to compress.''
It's already known that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will be dialogue-heavy %26ndash; to an extent that could well outstrip its quite comically verbose predecessors. But the possibility of the amount of chattering outstripping even a Blu-ray disc is quite terrifying. Brace yourself for an earful come June 12. http://ps3.ign.com/articles/856/856239p1.html Dear God. Finally some confirmation on this, from Kojima himself. Things were actually CUT OUT of Metal Gear Solid 4...most recently it was confirmed via a Kojima-camp podcast that the different regions of audio would NOT be included on the same disc in each region (a la Uncharted), often considered a common culprit for stealing a lot of unnecessary disc space on the Blu Ray games for PS3.But Kojima just confirmed to us that things were ''cut'' and probably some serious, standard regulation compression took place along the content lines....most notably, the entire Metal Gear Online will come on a different disc altogether. Moreover, Metal Gear Solid 4's cutscenes are enacted ENTIRELY in real time on the game engine as Kojima confirmed as early as E3 07 during a demonstration. A common criticism of the ''filling of the disc'' on MGS4's end was that it was full of space-filling pre-rendered cinematics....not so.However, IGN pokes a jab at the single worthy space-filling aspect that is most assuredly included in all its uncompressed and hours-long glory, the audio. So, online mode on a seperate disc, confirmed dual-layer Blu Ray, confirmed content cuts, confirmed compression, and NO region-free dialogue. At the very least....can we all agree that this game is absolutely going to blow PS3 owner's lids when it releases this June?Kojima: 50 gig Blu Ray was too small.... ...

so 49 gigs for cutscenes
this is all good and all, but does it make the Game any better or worse? Why get hyped because it's got way to much dialog? Also two disks... hahahahahahahah Sucks to be cows, I mean they gave Lems a hard time about disk switching... looks like the egg is on their face.
49 gigs for cutscenes? You mean the real-time cut-scenes that are not pre-rendered?Would you quit it with this tired, trite crap?I disproved your comment in the OP, thanks.
Can't wait for some xbox fans come in and say....'' haha...teh blue-ray iz too small!!!!'' ''50GB of cutsceenes haha!! enjoy watching your movie!!'' ''MGS4 is overated''

A 50 gigabyte game, on one hand, and an online portion worthy of a seperate Blu Ray disc on the other. If anything, don't be ridiculous, this could easily solidify the idea that Blu Ray is worth every gig they've stretched into the damn thing.
yeah 2 discs does suck, the only way you could defend this is to say that its a seperate game anyway, but id really like them not to charge for mgo and be cool like cod4.

This game should take at least 12-15 hrs to complete if Hideo used up all that memory. If you can beat the game in 4-6hrs, I think fans will be very disappointed.
Well at least we'll know it's going to be huge, and this should go on the PS3 forum am I wrong?I hope it doesn't majorly affect MGS4

Talk about cramming the disk full of uncompressed audio and video!

All I can say is that EVERY SINGLE developer out there is laughing at the MGS4 dev team. It is HILARIOUS that they are standing behind these comments. 50GB for a game! ROFLMFAO!
anyone who has REAL computer knowledge should find this comicalyou would have to really go out your way to fill up 50gigs for a single game

That's just insane that they're using up an entire Blu-Ray disc. This probably means it's not coming to the 360 because if it did it would be a 6 disc game.
