Well they came out before the Sega ones and back then technology was upgrading alot faster. Plus the GB was only 8 Bit like the NES and the Game Gear came out well after both.Nintendo had ''Crappy'' graphics
i dono, I like my graphics looking as good as they can be.thats why I got ps3 and 360
So the choice was between crap, and a bigger crap.Things have changed.

What alternate universe do you live in where games are separate from the graphics?
Do graphics matter? They didn't back then apparently.
Yes, I would imagine the more complicated the actions are on screen the better the game would need to look.

Video games do have graphics and they shouldn't regress, but in the end it's the game part that makes it diffrent from a movie... and if all you want is graphics then why care about the game part a all, why not just watch Bee Movie or any other graphical masterpiece?
So the diffrence between the FF1 and FF10 is the game is more complicated? Or is it that it's got a better graphics overlay on the same basic gameplay?

I believe I said the more complicated the actions on screen, not the more complicated the game. An easy example would be comparing the old side-scrolling world of Mario on the SNES to the three dimensional world of Super Mario Galaxy.
You are comparing 2D and 3D, of course 3D would look more complicated. What if I do a stick figure in a black and white 3D world that does the same thing SMG do?

I'm not sure what your point is, or how it opposes mine. My point is better graphics are needed to apply worlds like SMG to games. I don't see how that's wrong, or how comparing being stuck in 2D as opposed to 3D doesn't prove that.

May I kindly ask as to what the heck you're talking about?
the best game of all time, Tag, or Monopoly... why (hint it's not the graphics)?

I wouldn't consider either to be anywhere close to being the best ''game'' of all time, but that's completely irrelevent anyway...

Now this is the kind of stuff that gets me ticked off. Who here in this thread said anything such as ''all I care about is graphics'', or anything of the sort? You're doing what most everyone does when this some kind of issue comes up, which is you pretend people think that way so that you can lambast them for being ''graphics whores''. Instead you should consider that perhaps, people like having some good graphics to go along with their good gameplay. There's no need to polarize the issue, it just makes you look defensive.
Let's try an anology: Imagine if everytime you ate a cookie and said ''mmm, cookies are good'' a swarm of health-freaks jumped on you saying ''OMG, all you eat is COOKIES!''
But nobody said that all they wanted was graphics... Why should we need the Wiimote in orther to make a more realistic human interaction towards a virtual environment? You have real life for that. These types of arguments are... well, what can I say. Video games from the beggining have been evolving in some way or another towards a more realistic approach in human interaction in a given environment. Sure the graphics goal has always been to evolve towards this area, the same cannot be said of the control department... nonetheless, the negative argument people have on both sides is pratically baseless. To make a video game with as close as interaction as possible in the same way we do in real life is the future, people will have to accept it in some way or another. Either from a visual standpoint, control or even sound.
That's because imo comparing 2D to 3D is a moot point. it's obvious 3D is superior to 2D if you are talking about complexity. So I'm, in a way, agreeing with you there. But since most. if not all games, are in 3D these days, such an argument is kinda pointless. So I guess I'm arguing on the present, but since this thread is talking about the ''past'', you, sir, are correct in context, while I'm off topic. My bad :P

I hate when people put words in your mouth just because you mention that you like good graphics in the games you play. There like ''What? All you care about is graphics?'' Thats just being ignorant.
