Blu-ray is a necessity.

Sony have had allot critism's over there inclusion of Blu-ray. People have deemed it a 'gimmick', questioned its usefulness to gaming, and laughed at the delays because of a shortage of blu-ray diodes PAL territories. But, my fellow gamers, in the world of next-generstion high-definition gaming, even 50 GB blu-ray disc's are being tested. I'm sure your all familiar with MGS4 being over 50GB, on 360, it would need 6 disc's...not only that, you would have to change the disc every 1-2 hours. So, it looks like Blu-ray has redeemed itself. The format beat HD-DVD into the ground, is allowing game developers to take hi-definition entertainment to the next level. The lemmings have been owned 8)Blu-ray is a necessity.
A problem with using Blu-ray as a carrier for video games though is that it is more difficult to stream than DVD.And you really don't like EA do you?Blu-ray is a necessity.
The 1st gen blu-ray drive in PS3 is a detriment for gaming. Slow speed. I'm willing to bet the reason MGS4 is using the whole disk is because they are repeating information all over the disk to make up how long it takes to seek/read. Thats what Resistence did. That being said, you are correct in that it would take more than one disk on 360. Blu-ray is also a nice valu add for home theater folks. I just don't think it does much for gaming yet.
Its not needed for gaming... most smart people already knew it was going to be the next video format, but as far as gaming is concerned its not needed.Do me a favour and when MGS4 comes out time your self playing throught it if the game is not longer than the longest DVD9 game out their its not necessary.
So when I'm playing my 360 %26 Wii %26 PC, its all just a figment of my imagination I guess...... cuz none of them have Blu-Ray, and yet I seem to play them all the time without it.... huh? weird eh?
So MGS 4 would be 6 DVDs and need to change every 1 to 2 hours. So around 2 (maybe 1) hours for each DVD, so MGS 4 is around 6-12 hours. :shock:This generation Blu-Ray is not needed they could handel the problem with extra DVDs, Lost Odyssey is fine with 4 DVD. Now for next gen then they would need something bigger, but now DVD-9 is fine.

Their is nothing wrong with multiple discs. LO did just fine with it.

The devs used completely uncompressed textures and sound to artificially inflate the size of the game. Not only would the game have been faster if they had used normal compression methods it would have fit on a normal DVD9. TC you just don't know squat if you believe for 1 second that MGS4 actually NEEDED bluray.
Peter moore is still being killzoned from his MS days. That i find it funny so its staying
Moore doesn't represent Msoft any longer. He represents EA Sports. So what you are saying is that EA Sports needs to die? And I tend to agree as they are scared of competition, which is not acceptable.

As for the uncompressed sound, you run afoul of the available bandwidth of the PS3's BD drive. Even lossless compression can push the envelope if other things need to be loaded at the same time.
I play 2 or 3 games a night and I bet cows do too. I get up, I change the disc. It's not hard. The PS3 doesn't require much compressing. If you said it was 50 Gig after compression, then this might mean something.
No, its not.
Even if Blu-Ray is a necessity, we are gauranteed to get it next gen. If Sony doesn't allow MS to use Blu-Ray, MS wont allow it to be compatible with Windows. Simple as that.

uncompressed sound... and cutscenes
changing discs isnt bad as it's ok for lost odyssey but if people had to chose im sure everyone would prefer it on the one disc, so blu-ray isnt a necessity, it's more a luxury, it would be stupid for a 360 fanboy to say he wouldnt prefer a game on the one disc instead of 4 but it's not a huge deal

Blu-ray isn't a necessity for games in the current gen. But it's a nice bonus for people like me that like to watch movies in HD, it saves me money from buying a blu-ray player.
